SPHPM welcomes representative from University of Colombo

Top right: Professor Abeysena
SPHPM welcomed Professor Chrishantha Abeysena last week, who visited the department from Colombo, Sri Lanka. Professor Abeysena is the Deputy Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine at University of Colombo, and is part of SPHPM's Sri Lankan Public Health Professional Training Program.

Professor Abeysena presented some ideas to help the training program grow, by suggesting that there be an exchange of post graduate trainees for electives, an exchange of examiners and an establishment of collaborative research.

The Training Program aims to collaborate SPHPM with the Sri Lankan Ministry of Health, in its public health program for Sri Lankan health practitioners. SPHPM hosts mid-career medical or dental practitioners with a research doctorate, and a passion for research, to provide an insight into Public Health research and practice in Australia. The program also offers a year long placement in the research precinct at The Alfred Hospital, an opportunity to publish peer-review publications and conference participation, participation in selected units in the SPHPM Masters program and selected Short Courses in the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine.
