Three generations of inspiration at SPHPM

Prof Basil Hetzel
Prof Jane Fisher, Dr Rosie Dwyer and Prof Basil Hetzel represent three generations at The School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine.

The predecessor of Monash's School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine was the Department of Social & Preventive Medicine which was inaugurated at Monash University under its foundation Professor and Head, Dr Basil Hetzel. He has had a profound impact on public health, particularly in his development of iodized oil injections which has helped combat iodine deficiency disorders worldwide.

Prof Jane Fisher, Prof Hetzel's stepdaughter, is the director of the Jean Hailes Research Unit which specialises in women's health, and her daughter Dr Rosie Dwyer is a registrar in emergency medicine.

Watch the clip to see how three generations have flourished at Monash Public Health.
